스룹바벨은 구약 성경에 나오는 이스라엘의 대제사장으로 바벨론의 포로 생활을 마치고 유다로 돌아와 성전 건축을 하려는데 많은 방해와 맞서게 되지요. 사마리아인과 페르시아 총독이 방해공작을 해서 제대로 성전 건축을 하지 못했답니다. 이런 가운데 스가랴 선지자와 학개 선지자를 통해서 하나님이 말씀하십니다.
Zerubbabel is an Israelite leader mentioned in the Old Testament who returned from Babylonian exile to Judah to rebuild the temple, but encountered many obstacles. The Samaritans and the Persian governor obstructed the construction, preventing the temple from being completed. In the midst of this, the prophets Zechariah and Haggai conveyed God’s message.
그가 내게 일러 가로되 여호와께서 스룹바벨에게 하신 말씀이 이러하니라 만군의 여호와께서 말씀하시되 이는 힘으로 되지 아니하며 능으로 되지 아니하고 오직 나의 신으로 되느니라 큰 산아 네가 무엇이냐 네가 스룹바벨 앞에서 평지가 되리라 그가 머릿돌을 내어 놓을 때에 무리가 외치기를 은총, 은총이 그에게 있을지어다 하리라 하셨고 (슥 4:6-7)
6 So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.
7 “What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’ ( Zechariah 4:6-7)
모든 것은 하나님의 영이 함께 하셔야 가능함을 알려주고 있습니다. 스룹바벨은 영적힘을 얻어 성전 건축을 마침내 해내고 말았습니다. 기원전 516년경, 예루살렘 침략 후 70년 만에 성전이 완성이 되어서 그해 첫 유월절을 지키켰다고 나옵니다. 이렇게 악의 세력은 하나님의 일을 방해하는 일을 많이 합니다. 방해공작이 있다고 한들 하나님의 영이 함께 하시면 모든 것은 무너지고 맙니다. 진리의 하나님 말씀만이 온전해집니다.
Everything shows that only with the Spirit of God can anything be accomplished. Zerubbabel received spiritual strength and ultimately completed the temple. Around 516 BCE, about 70 years after the Babylonian invasion, the temple was finished and they observed the first Passover that year. Evil forces often try to obstruct God’s work, but when the Spirit of God is with us, every obstacle collapses. Only the Word of God stands whole and true.
다음은 스룹바벨의 교훈을 일상적인 신앙생활에 적용할 수 있는 실질적인 방법들입니다.

4. 다른 사람들과 협력하십시오. 스룹바벨이 예언자들과 공동체와 함께 일했던 것처럼, 서로 격려하고 책임감을 나눌 수 있는 신실한 관계를 구축하십시오.
5. 하나님의 때를 기억하십시오. 결과를 억지로 만들어내려 하기보다는 작고 꾸준한 발걸음으로 신실하게 나아가십시오. 하나님께서 시작하신 일을 반드시 완성하실 것이라고 믿으십시오.
6. 감사함으로 중요한 순간들을 기념하세요. (비록 작은 것이라도) 진전을 인정하고 하나님께 영광을 돌림으로써 하나님에 대한 의존심을 더욱 강화하십시오.
Here are practical ways to apply Zerubbabel’s lesson to daily faith:
- Prioritize God’s presence: begin each day with prayer and Scripture so the Holy Spirit guides your choices rather than your fears.
- Persevere despite opposition: when setbacks occur, view them as temporary obstacles and continue the work God has given you with steady faith.
- Seek spiritual strength, not just strategies: combine practical planning with prayer, fasting, and reliance on God for wisdom and endurance.
- Partner with others: like Zerubbabel worked with prophets and the community, build faithful relationships for mutual encouragement and accountability.
- Remember God’s timing: stay faithful in small, consistent steps rather than forcing results; trust that God completes what He starts.
- Celebrate milestones with thanksgiving: acknowledge progress (even small) and give God the glory to reinforce dependence on Him.
