오늘은 아주 특별한 날입니다. 콜로라도 스프링스 한인회 새로운 회장이 취임하는 날이지요. 회장직을 맡으신 분이 저희 가족과 친분이 있는 분이랍니다. 그래서 응원과 격려차에 남편과 함께 참여하게 되었지요. 미국인 남편은 이런 행사는 처음인지라 신기하게 진행을 지켜보고 계셨답니다.
Today is a very special day: the inauguration of the new president of the Colorado Springs Korean Association. The person taking office is someone our family knows, so my husband and I attended to offer our support and encouragement. Since this was my American husband's first time at such an event, he watched the proceedings with great curiosity.
사실 저도 이번 행사가 처음입니다. 애국가를 부르고 일반 행사와 별반차이 없이 진행되고 전 회장님의 고별사가 끝나고 새로 취임하신 회장님의 연설이 있었고요. 격려사도 친분이 있는 목사님이 연설을 해주셨어요. 가장 기억에 남는 것은 진정한 리드는 겸손함을 갖춘 분이라고 하는 부분이 마음에 들었어요.
Actually, this was my first time attending the event as well. After singing the national anthem, the program proceeded much like any other: the outgoing president gave a farewell address, followed by a speech from the newly inaugurated president. A pastor we know also gave an encouraging message. What stayed with me most was the idea that true leadership is marked by humility.
대략 행사가 1시간 정도 소요 되었던 것 같습니다. 이번 한인회 모임에서 콜로라도 스프링스에서 처음으로 한인축제를 열었습니다. 대략 3천 명의 인원이 모였다고 합니다. 한국의 문화를 알리고 우리 한인의 정체성을 지키면서 지역 사회의 발전을 도모하고 계신 많은 분들의 노고에 감사를 드립니다.
The event lasted about an hour. This Korean Association meeting also hosted Colorado Springs’ first Korean festival, which drew roughly 3,000 people. I’m grateful for the hard work of everyone promoting Korean culture, preserving our identity, and supporting the development of the local community.
한인회가 이번에는 새로운 회장을 맞이하여 더 발전되고 지역사회를 넘어선 한국과 교류를 하여 젊은 세대를 위한 새로운 방향을 제시할 것이라는 큰 포부를 알려 주기도 했습니다. 새로운 바람이 불고 있습니다. 이곳에서 새로운 도전을 통해서 크리스천의 선한 영향력을 행사하여, 많은 사람들이 한인사회의 참여하여 지역사회 발전에도 많은 도움을 줄 것이라는 확신이 있습니다.
With the new president, the Korean Association announced ambitious plans to grow and foster exchanges between Korea and the local community, offering new directions for younger generations. A fresh breeze is blowing, and I’m confident that through these new initiatives—led by Christians exercising positive influence—many people will engage with the Korean community and help advance the broader local society.
이런 행사는 처음이었지만, 한인회가 어떤 식으로 운영이 되고 있는지 대충 알아보는 시간이 되었습니다. 새로 취임하신 회장님 앞으로 잘 해내실 겁니다. 멋진 도약을 기대합니다.
Although this was my first time attending, it gave me a good sense of how the Korean Association operates. I believe the newly inaugurated president will do well. I look forward to their bold and successful initiatives.
콜로라도 스프링스 25대 한인회장님 되십니다. 새로 취임하신 회장님 아주 젊으시죠? ㅎㅎㅎ 회장님 하면 나이가 많은 생각이 들어요.
The new president of the Colorado Springs Korean Association is taking office as the 25th president. The newly inaugurated president is quite young—right? Haha. When I think of a president, I usually imagine someone older.

남편과 회장님 사진을 찍습니다. 남편은 웬 사진이냐고 하지만 기념일이잖아요. 당연히 사진을 찍어야죠. ㅎㅎㅎㅎ
I took a photo of my husband with the new president. He asked, “Why take a photo?” but it’s a commemorative occasion—of course we should take one.
