On Friday, October 12th, I went to a small concert by Mean Mary. The atmosphere of the concert venue created a beautiful harmony with the intonation of guitar, violin and banjo in the cozy cafe. One of the reasons I went to her concert was that my husband is a fan of Mean Mary. My husband can play guitar, harmonica, banjo, synthesizer and so on. He loves banjo more than anybody, and he heard Mean Mary 's music one day. The concert was a 2 hour drive away, but it was a pleasure meeting Mean Mary. Bethany and I participated in the concert. So, how did she get her name "Mean Mary"? She's really not mean at all. She's very sweet. Well, when she was very young, with the help of her mom, she wrote her theme song “Mean Mary from Alabam’.” The name stuck, and she’s been "Mean Mary" ever since.
지난 10월 12일, 금요일날 Mean Mary씨의 소규모 콘서트장를 찾아갔다. 콘서트장의 분위기는 아늑한 카페에서 듣는 통기타, 바이올린, 벤조가 어울려져서 아름다운 하모니를 만들어내고 있었다. 그녀의 콘서트를 가게된 이유중에 하나가 남편이 Mean Mary씨의 팬이셨다. 남편은 기타, 하모니카, 벤조, 신디사이저등을 조금씩 연주 할줄 안다. 남편은 어느누구보다 벤조를 사랑하셨는데, 어느날 Mean Mary씨의 음악을 듣고 반하셨다고 한다. 2시간을 운전해서 가야하는 거리였지만 Mean Mary씨를 만난다는 기쁨으로 아라와 같이 콘서트장을 참여했다. 어떻게 "Mean Mary"(심술궂은 메리)라는 이름이 탄생 되었을까? 그녀는 절대 심술궂지가 않았다. 아주 착한분이셨다. 그녀가 아주 어렸을때 엄마를 도와 주기위해 노래를 작사한것이 “Mean Mary from Alabam’.”(알라바마에서 온 심술궂은 메리)였다고 한다. 이름이 굳혀져서 그후로 부터는 "Mean Mary"(심술궂은 메리)로 부르게 되었다.
Mean Mary's biography said that there was a case in which she had lost her voice due to an accident in the past. I was still proud of her beautiful vocals. Her music was full of warmth and comfort. She is a musician who really loves her fans and knows how to communicate. Frank, her older brother, played with her. They jokingly enjoyed the interior atmosphere of the concert hall. She has been playing guitar since she was 5 years old. When she was 6 years old, she also appeared on a TV station and sang a country song. For Mean Mary, the word prodigy is pretty accurate. It is not surprising that her mother was also a musician and that she had practiced the instrument for seven hours a day when she was a child. She was born with a musical genius, but she worked hard to get to where she is.
Mean Mary씨의 자서전에서는 예전에 사고를 당해서 목소리를 잃을뻔한 사건도 있었다고 한다. 여전히 아름다운 보컬을 자랑하고 있었다. 그녀의 음악은 따스함과 위로함이 있었다. 진심으로 팬들을 사랑하고 교감을 할 줄 아는 음악인이셨다. 같이 연주를 했던 큰오빠되는 프랭크씨와 농담을 하면서 콘서트장의 실내 분위기를 살리고 있었다. 그녀는 5살때부터 기타를 배웠고 6살때는 방송국에 출연해서 직접 칸트리 노래를 부르기도 했다. Mean Mary씨에게는 신동이라는 단어가 무색하지 않았다. 그녀의 어머님도 음악인이셨고 어릴때부터 악기를 7시간씩 연습을 했다고 하니 놀랍기만하다. 음악적인 천재의 기질을 타고 나셨지만 그만큼 노력하는 음악인의 자세는 본받을만했다.

The song "Choctawhatchee Waltz" won the first prize by participating in the 2017 Florida Folk Song Contest. It was a concert live song, but I fell in love with the beauty of the very sweet vocals.

기타 리프의 사운드가 아주 매력적으로 다가왔던 곡이였다. Mean Mary씨는 바이올린, 벤조, 기타를 능숙하게 연주를 할 줄 아시는 분이시다. Mean Mary씨는 음악적 소질을 타고 나신 분으로서 음악의 혼이 담겨진 연주와 노래를 했다.

I spent two hours at the mini concert. Mean Mary's music was the end result of his efforts and he said goodbye to the performance and beautiful vocals. It was good to have a good time with my daughter by communicating through the music while watching the pictures recalling the memories.
두시간을 알차게 미니 콘서트장에서 보냈다. Mean Mary씨의 음악은 노력의 결과물로 이렇게 연주와 아름다운 보컬을 들으면서 아쉬움의 작별을 했다. 이렇게 추억을 회상하는 사진들을 보면서 음악으로 딸과 소통하는 좋은 시간을 보냈다.
